Miami University Libraries seeks an innovative and service-minded individual for appointment as Arts and Humanities Librarian/Assistant Librarian.
To serve as the subject specialist and liaison to the Department of Art and Dept of Architecture & Interior Design, with primary responsibility for providing reference, consultation, collection management, and instructional services. Liaison duties for 1-2 additional departments in the creative arts or humanities may also be assigned, depending on the incumbent’s experience and current library needs.
The position additionally serves as the supervisor for the Wertz Art & Architecture Library in Alumni Hall, a Carnegie Library building which historically served as the first dedicated University Library building. With the supervision of the Head of Branch Libraries and in cooperation with other campus library units, the position oversees two FTE hourly staff plus student employees and is responsible for operations and customer assistance at the Art & Architecture Library. The successful candidate will play a critical role in library initiatives, including possible roles in emerging technologies; scholarly communication advocacy; creative arts education and outreach initiatives; developing and teaching credit/non-credit courses and/or workshops for the library system; developing and managing library services and products; and/or providing requested policy and practice recommendations for Libraries administration.
Require: Graduate library degree from an ALA accredited institution by date of appointment; undergraduate or advanced degree in a fine or creative arts field; teaching skills leading to proficient instruction in information fluency; strong commitment to high quality public service; analytical skills to aid in navigation of information sources and in technology problem solving; strong computer knowledge especially in the use and applications of multimedia software; flexibility; ability to work in teams and independently with all levels of staff and diverse library customers; strong written and oral communication skills; proactive attitude, initiative, and ability to independently conceive and carry out projects; enthusiasm and capability to independently identify and develop skills in additional new technologies and professional competencies; ability to meet the Libraries’ promotion and continuing contract requirements http://www.lib.muohio.edu/about/larps.pdf. The position requires a self-motivated, creative, client-centered librarian who is committed to providing excellent customer service and who remains knowledgeable of emerging trends in libraries, information technology, and needs of the subject areas served.
Desire: Prior supervisory or management experience in a library or other customer-service oriented position; prior experience in public service and customer service-oriented work environments; interest and experience in emerging technologies associated with “maker” culture; experience teaching at the collegiate level.
